Seeking a fair, honest, and open government that works for all:

I introduced the No One Can Take Your Vote Away Act. I also supported the legislative fix for the recent SCOTUS decision. I was the first major donor for Florida Fair Districts which passed to outlaw gerrymandering. I introduced the first Constitutional Amendment to establish automatic civil rights restoration when felons complete their sentences.

Seeking broader rights and better wages for workers:

I was a co-sponsor of $15 minimum wage legislation. I introduced the Employee Free Choice Act in 2015.

Seeking to maintain a strong economy:

I voted for the American Recovery Act which had $100 billion in infrastructure spending, as well as the Progressive Caucus Budget which called for $1 trillion in new infrastructure.

Seeking to provide a quality public education for all children, as guaranteed by our State Constitution:

I oppose vouchers and the diversion of tax dollars to unaccountable charter and private schools.

Seeking justice and equality for all:

I oppose discrimination in all forms, including, but not limited to, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity/expression and co-sponsored and voted in favor of anti-discrimination legislation. I co-sponsored legislation to extend the Equal Rights Amendment ratification date. I voted in favor of including reproductive health in all health coverage under Obamacare. I voted against private prisons while in Congress.

Seeking a clean and safe environment:

I instituted a large increase in the National Estuary Program and extended $1.3 billion in tax credits for home energy conservation and pushed prohibition on offshore drilling to a rare tie vote.

Seeking a peaceful and secure world:

I condemned the Stand Your Ground law on national TV after Travon Martin's death and attended his memorial services.
